A Message to All Our Virginia Campers for Summer 2022

By now you’ve likely heard the unfortunate news that Camp CHOP will not be operating for the summer of 2021. As much as we’d love to welcome everyone back to camp this summer, state guidelines have pushed back our opening date to summer 2022 as of now. By nature, Camp CHOP operates primarily indoors with close contact, and while we take great pride in ensuring a safe and health camp environment, we wholeheartedly respect the state of Virginia’s decision to postpone indoor summer camps due to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

So, what about next year?

While the news of having to postpone Camp CHOP for 2021 is disappointing, there is some silver lining to this. We now have a whole another year to fortify and enhance our health and safety precautions for the best campers in the world! Summer camp is meant to be one of the best experiences in a child’s life and while parents echo that statement, the health and safety of their children is always on their mind. Even before COVID-19, Camp CHOP was dedicated on adhering to the best camp safety protocols. In addition to asking parents to provide detailed information on the physical, mental and emotion health history of their children, our staff requires special medical issues, allergies, dietary restrictions and any other notable concerns to be disclosed before enrolling their child at Camp CHOP.

Here at Camp CHOP, the health and safety of our campers is our number one priority – our mission is to provide every camper with an incredibly one-of-a-kind summer camp experience, all while maintaining a safe environment. All Camp CHOP procedures and protocols are developed through the guidance of the American Camp Association (ACA) Field Guide, as well as the Virginia state and local health department.

Camp CHOP wants every parent or guardian to feel secure about the health and safety of their child before sending them to summer camp. To help ensure this, we provide a number a fantastic resources filled with up-to-date information about camp – whether you’re searching for general information, a camp guide for parents or even a checklist for what your child should bring to camp and what should be left at home, we’ve got you covered.

While we know many of you had your hearts set on a return to Virginia’s favorite culinary summer camp, two of our other summer camps, Camp Motorsport and AstroCamp (located at the same facility) are both full operational for summer 2021. Camp Motorsport and AstroCamp both operate with a more traditional outdoor summer camp approach, thus allowing both to be fully functional while still adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols. Registration is currently open for both camps! We completely understand that returning to our daily lives with so much uncertainty is extremely difficult, yet we know that come summer 2022 Camp CHOP will be better than ever! From everyone here at Camp CHOP, we miss our campers dearly and we look forward to welcoming back all those smiling faces next year!
