Life at Camp

Camp CHOP is a beautiful 406-acre facility offering state-of-the-art equipment for exploring culinary arts and fun outdoor adventures. We are located just two hours north of Raleigh, North Carolina, on the edge of the Staunton River surrounded by groves of oak, crepe myrtle, and walnut trees, giving us a perfect camp life balance. Campers and counselors are housed in comfortable, climate-controlled dorms with bunk beds. Each dorm room typically houses 6-8 campers and a counselor.

camper dining

“This Is The Best Food Ever! Better Than At Home!”

While this is not something every parent wants to hear, it is music to our Food Service crew’s ears. Our experienced chefs work hard every day to provide three balanced, nutritious, and tasty meals to the campers. Of course, all meals are designed around what children like to eat.

Meals are served in our Dining Hall overlooking the picturesque rolling hills of Saunders Meadow. Buffet style serving allows Camp CHOP to serve a wider variety of foods to meet the appetites of every camper. We are also very attentive to the special dietary needs of our campers, especially those with food allergies. Are you vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free? We can accommodate most special needs.

camper cabins

Our Dorms

Camper cabins are located on the edge of a beautiful meadow set amongst crepe myrtle, walnut, and oak trees. At the end of an adventurous and enriching day at Camp CHOP, your child will come back to our camper cabins.

Camper cabins are used to clean up, share their favorite experiences with their bunkmates, and get some good old-fashioned shuteye in preparation for the next action-packed day. At Camp CHOP, your child’s needs are an essential aspect of our camper cabins. Details are thought out by our vast experience of doing this for 40 plus years.

health & safety

At Camp CHOP, the health and safety of our campers is our top priority

Camp CHOP undergoes an extensive American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation process every five years.
The accreditation requires we adhere to more than 250 standards ranging from safety to program design.

  • All of our staff are trained in first aid, CPR, and water safety. They are drilled on safety procedures and are trained in what to do in the event of an emergency.
  • Our onsite nurse tends to camper needs twenty-four hours a day, ensuring medications are taken on time and all the campers' health needs are met.
  • A camper health form must be filled out with a current physical and a doctor’s signature.
  • Please note any allergies the camper has on the health form.
  • We can accommodate most speical diets. Please note special dietary needs on the camper health form.

Telephone calls to or from the campers are NOT allowed due to their busy schedules and our camp belief of camper independence. If you have any concerns about your child, our staff is available to help you. Please call camp between 8:00am and 5:00pm at (434) 454-4059.
